The Magic Made at Houndvision – A Dog Photography Workshop in Sunny Florida

A couple of months ago as the winter chill began to set in here in Northwest Arkansas, I buried myself under three heavy blankets and longed for warmer weather. So when the opportunity to participate at a dog photography workshop that promised to help us to unleash our creative talents as photographers amidst the warm, sun-kissed tropical landscapes of Florida, I unraveled myself from the tornado of blankets I was tangled in, and packed my bags.

Our Houndvision workshop, the second of which I have participated, took place on Anna Maria Island, just outside of Tampa, Florida. We embarked on three days of creating magic, hosted by the mega-talented trio of Kaylee and Sam from Dog Breath Photography and Nicole of Nicole Begley Photography + Hair of the Dog Academy. Our intimate group of dog photographers share a passion for photography and the mutual adoration for our favorite subjects, dogs!

Our days were filled with invaluable photography lessons and business insights, while making new friends and creating fun memories in the comfort of our beachside rental amid sandy beaches and palm trees. As evenings approached, we ventured forth into the enchanting surroundings, our lenses poised to capture the essence of our amazing dog models. From the majestic banyan trees and sparkling waters of St. Petersburg’s waterfront to the sandy shores of Emerson Point Preserve and the towering palm trees at Myakka State Park, each locale offered a canvas upon which our creativity flourished (and vampire bugs dined on my visible ankles).

In the company of our spirited dog models, the magic unfolded. Here are some of the photos I captured along our adventures.

As I bid farewell to Florida’s warm, sunny shores, I was filled with gratitude for the memories made with old friends and new, the fresh skills and lessons learned, and the photos I captured of our darling dog models. I look forward to the fun adventures that lie ahead, excited to meet new furry friends and capturing their infectious smiles and unique personalities through my lens to create magical art that will be treasured for a lifetime by the adoring families who love them. Now, where did I put that bottle of bug bite soother???
